Union Fees and Dues Authorization Form

The university is required to obtain written authorization from newly hired employees to make payroll deductions for union dues. The BC Labour Relations Code and the BC Employment Standards Act outline this obligation. It is a condition of employment for employees represented by a staff union to sign the union dues authorization forms unless they fall into a very narrow religious exemption.

The following table outlines union fees and dues which are subject to change. Please refer to the specific union bylaws which are available on their websites to learn more about how changes take place.

Please ensure new employees complete the Electronic Union Dues Authorization Form as part of their onboarding process. The manual process for collecting authorization for union dues payroll deductions no longer applies unless recruitment activity takes place outside of UVic Careers.

If recruitment does take place outside of UVic Careers, please download the appropriate Union Fees and Dues Authorization Form and ensure new employees have opportunity to review before signing. The forms are to be kept in the departmental employee file. Please do not send these forms to Payroll.
