Changes to the BC Human Rights Code in 2008 eliminated mandatory retirement. This means that you are no longer required to retire from the university at age 65 (normal retirement date).

Early retirement

Normal retirement
- UVic group benefits coverage ceases at the end of the month in which you retire.
Deferred retirement
If you are enrolled in the following benefits, they will continue unchanged if you choose to work past your normal retirement date:
- Extended health plan
- Dental plan
- Optional group life insurance
- Pension plan
- Sick leave
The following benefits will change once an employee reaches age 65:
- Basic group life insurance will be reduced from 1.5 x earnings to 1.0 x earnings.
- Long term disability eligibility and coverage will cease.
