Business Minor program structure
Students enrolled in the Business Minor program can access the program manual on Brightspace.
Required courses
The Business Minor program consists of 9.0 units of course work. This includes passing grades in the following 5 fundamental courses:
- COM 202 - Financial Accounting I
- COM 220 - Organizational Behaviour
- COM 240 - Management Finance
- COM 250 - Fundamentals of Marketing
- COM 317 - Management Accounting I
Students who satisfy the prerequisites can register in these 5 courses through Online Tools.
Additional courses
Additionally, you’ll need to complete at least 1.5 units of 300- or 400-level COM, ENT or IB courses. You can choose from 1 of the following courses below or apply to complete an alternate upper-level course through our request for registration process:
- COM 302 - Legal Environment of Business
- COM 303 - Intermediate Business Topics
- IB 301 - The International Environment of Business
- ENT 402 - Entrepreneurship and Small Business for the Non-Specialist
Students who satisfy the prerequisites can register in these 4 courses through Online Tools.

Note: For COM 450 Special Topics: each section is a different class entirely (you can complete as many sections as you would like).
Request for registration process
If you are interested in individual commerce courses, please follow these steps:
- Review courses available for the upcoming term—posted 4 weeks prior to the start of term.
- Complete a request for registration form.
- Visiting students must send a copy of their transcripts from their home institution to the BCom Program Office.
Please submit your registration form by the following deadlines:

Applicants should be aware that course availability is extremely limited in any given term. We award spaces in classes based on:
- availability
- most recent available grade-point average of the applicant
- completion of prerequisites
Visiting students
If you are a visiting student hoping to complete individual commerce courses through a letter of permission from your home institution, you must be admitted to UVic first.
Visiting students may apply to complete individual commerce courses through the request for registration process, subject to course availability. Please note that the BCom advising team may require a copy of your transcripts and/or course outlines to determine whether prerequisites have been met.
